About HOD: Dr. Sunil Kumar Thamida is currently the Head in Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Tirupati. He is a Ph.D holder in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, USA. He has completed his M.E. from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore and B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras. He has 5 years of Industrial R&D experience and 13 years of Teaching & Research experience. His Research experience is in Transport Phenomena, Microfluidics and Corrosion simulations, and he has guided 4 PhD scholars and 8 M.Tech student research projects to completion. He has authored a book on Transport Phenomena: Chemical Processes and published more than 20 articles in international peer reviewed journals He is recipient of an award of excellence titled M P Chary Memorial Medal Award from Indian Institute for Chemical Engineers (IIChE).

He has carried out a sponsored project for Naval Research Board on development of computer simulation for simulation of macro and micro galvanic corrosion of steels like austenitic/ferritic/super-duplex in salt water. He has also carried out industrial consultancy project for development of a continuous process for production Bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass or the agri-waste with nexus of ASN Fuels – HPCL – IIT Tirupati. It is currently being pursued for an intermediate scale of production. He has got granted patents in the areas of Corrosion and Drying processes as well as filed patents in the areas of unit operations related to 2G Bioethanol production from agri-waste biomass.
